- S&S Technology division of S&S
X-Ray Products, Inc. serves as the marketing,
manufacturing, research and development headquarters for S&S X-Ray, S&S RADX,
S&S Par Scientific and
S&S MedCart product
lines. This family of companies incorporates excellence in design,
electronic circuitry, engineering and fabrication, resulting in patents for
several of its products.
As part of its creation in 1999,
S&S Technology moved
into a new 155,000 square foot facility in Houston, Texas, where most S&S
Technology products distributed in the United States are now manufactured.
Mission Statement
S&S Technology responds to the needs of our customers by providing creative
and innovative product development and manufacturing solutions that
transcend today's market challenges and lead us toward total customer
satisfaction. Background Since its founding in 1947, S&S X-Ray Products has
brought efficiency to the radiology diagnostic reading room. Having
initially manufactured light boxes and darkroom equipment in collaboration
with local radiologists, the company designed the first MV200A motorized
viewer in the late 1960s, facilitating film reading and improving turnaround
times.
In order to offer more motorized viewer models, S&S X-Ray acquired then
competitor RADX Technology in 1986 and expanded to form a European
operation, RADX, S.A. In the following years, other radiology related
companies such as InfiMed and Par Scientific were added to the product mix.
The S&S MedCart product line, previously called MMP MedCart, originated at
Modern Metal Products in Greensboro, North Carolina, which once served as a
manufacturing division for S&S X-Ray. In 1999, cart manufacturing relocated
to Houston.
Product Lines
S&S X-Ray and S&S RADX illuminators and motorized viewers help automate film
interpretation in radiology reading rooms worldwide. The sophistication of
these machines extends to the user interface, as radiologists comfortable
with stationary light boxes easily adapt to RADX's horizontal belt systems
and S&S X-Ray's vertical panel and belt viewers. Most recent product
offerings include the Digital Viewing Station (DVS) and the Mammography
Workstation (MWS). Both of these products allow radiology departments to
transition easily from film to a fully digital environment, using an
ergonomically designed, functional workstation. The lower section of these
stations support monitors for evaluating digital images, while the upper
part holds a motorized viewer or a standard x-ray illuminator for comparing
newer images to earlier hard-copy images.
S&S Par Scientific offers patient immobilization products and systems that
produce radiation blocks and compensating filters for radiation therapy.
These product lines represent a growing field for S&S Technology, one that
helps maintain treatment accuracy and patient comfort during a therapy
session. The DigiCut and DigiMill systems may be networked to the
treatment-planning computer, reducing block and filter cutting time and
increasing accuracy. The VacFix and Thermoplastic patient immobilization
systems allow radiation departments to create and store a reusable mold for
each patient, decreasing setup time and increasing overall accuracy and
reproducibility.
Under the S&S MedCart brand name, S&S Technology designs and manufactures
unit dose, point-of-care and procedure carts. S&S MedCart products are used
in emergency rooms, by pharmacy and nursing staff, and by anesthesiologists
in the surgical suite. These carts offer a unique automated locking system,
and each is custom-made per customer requirements. S&S MedCart has recently
revamped its product line to suit the changing hospital environment. The new
Partner Cart Series unit-dose and multi-purpose carts straddle the line
between convenience and security by supporting multiple users and tracking
cart access, providing at-a-glance information about drawer status, and
automatically capturing partially close drawers. Other new products, such as
the Assistant Cart and Partner POC models, combine point-of-care mobility
with unit-dose distribution to support hospitals with decentralized pharmacy
systems. Specialized carts for educational and other uses are also
manufactured.
Turn-Key Projects
S&S Technology supports turn-key projects via an in-house R&D group
comprising individuals from Engineering, Sheet Metal Fabrication, Marketing
and Production. This capability allows S&S Technology to respond rapidly to
requests for custom or original equipment manufacturer products. To support
both in-house and external customers, S&S Technology operates a
state-of-the-art sheet metal fabrication center and powder-coat paint shop
that cover 80,000 square feet of the Houston facility. These groups can
satisfy a broad range of design specifications with quality mechanical and
electrical assemblies.
Markets/Customers
S&S Technology markets its products worldwide through an independent sales
organization and via dealer/distributors. RADX S.A. distributes viewers to
the European market.
Regulatory Status
All S&S Technology products are designed and built with the highest quality
standards. Moreover, the manufacturing facility in Houston is certified to
the FDA's GMP quality standards. Viewers built in Switzerland receive CE
marking for European distribution.
Locations
S&S Technology is located in Houston, Texas. RADX Europe S.A. sales and
manufacturing are in Fleurier, Switzerland.
